about

BLUE ROSES OF FAR AND NEAR (© 2000) is the second CD of Dan Levinson's Roof Garden Jass Band. It contains 25 more note-for-note re-creations of the earliest jazz recordings, originally made between 1918 and 1925 by bands such as the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Ted Lewis' Jazz Band, Wiedoeft's Californians, Lanin's Southern Serenaders, Mitchell's Jazz Kings, the Georgians, the Original Memphis Five, the Bucktown Five, Art Hickman's New York London Five, Ray Miller’s Black and White Melody Boys, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Ory's Sunshine Orchestra, and Ladd's Black Aces, all expertly performed by Dan Levinson (clarinet and C-melody saxophone), Jon-Erik Kellso (cornet), David Sager (trombone), Tom Roberts (piano), and Kevin Dorn (drums). The cover art is by renowned artist Joe Busam, and the booklet includes comprehensive liner notes by early jazz scholar Mark Berresford.
