about

"Crinoline Days" is a collection of dance numbers played in the unique manner of the long forgotten Frisco Jazz Band, who in 1917 recorded the first records for the Edison label to bear the word "jazz". Despite the Frisco Jazz Band's name, the music they played is really a hybrid of ragtime and jazz. Acclaimed author/musician/songwriter Ian Whitcomb has provided informative liner notes, supplemented by contributions from author Doug Caldwell and Dan Levinson. Rather than being a re-creation, "Crinoline Days" features Dan Levinson's new arrangements of popular songs from the early 1900s, including spirited fox-trots, brisk one-steps, and dreamy, sentimental ballads. The Blue Amberol Quartette, directed by barbershop harmony specialist Neal Siegal, renders period-style vocals on six of the 23 tracks on this truly unique album.

1. Smile, Smile, Smile (Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag)
2. Pretty Baby
3. Just Like a Butterfly (That’s Caught in the Rain)
